Where to find a cat?

Since a lot of people are willing to get theirselves a loving pet, some don't know where to find a cat.
Most cat owners spay their pets to prevent them from getting little kitten, so it becomes harder to find someone in your circle of friends who got kittens and is willing to give one away.

Where to find a cat:

Animal shelter:

Since there are way too many cats in most countries, an animal shelter is a perfect place to find a cat.
Some cat owners feel overstrained by providing home for their cats so they give them away.
Paying for food, vacations and illness are the most popular reason for getting rid of a cat.
Considering this, an animal shelter would be the best place to find a cat.
Some people avoid these places for some reason.

Most people who are willing to find a cat want to get a newborn kitten and raise it.
Finding something like this is kinda tough in an animal shelter.

A lot of people also want to get a pure-bred cat. These kind of cats are rare in animal shelters because of their price. People who invest into a pure-bred cat usually are capable of paying for food and other costs the cat causes, so the most common reasons for giving it to an animal shelter fades, so there are only very few in them.

Cat breeder:

If you are looking for pure-bred and newborn kittens, your local cat breeder is a place to go to.
Prices range from 200$-5000$ and this might be the most expensive way to find a cat.
However, for this price you will get what you want.
Cat breeders deliver pure-bred and newborn kittens, they can assure that the cats are healthy and they usually feed and treat them the right way. They can tell you about the parents and their character.

However, if you buy your kitten from a cat breeder, you got to know that you support someone who produces cats in a world that already got way too many of them.

Pet shop:

If you still don't know where to find a cat that suits you, another place to look at is a pet shop
They are cheaper than a cat breeder, but higher priced as an animal shelter.
You can find pure-bred cats for a good price, but as everything in life, this got a downside.
Pet shops usualy buy animals abroad. They get bad food, are caged in very small places and get seperated from their mothers way too early.

A treatment like that isn't only immoral, it causes mental damage to the animal and their character can be ruined.

As a conclusion, i would recommend getting a cat in an animal shelter.
If you really need a pure-bred cat, find your way to a local cat breeder.
Even if they are higher priced than a pet shop, the asset costs of a cat are very tiny compared to the running costs, so these few dollars shouldn't make a big difference.
